AIA Lecturer: Peter Wells

Peter S. Wells is Professor with the Department of Anthropology at the University of Minnesota.  He attended the University of Tübingen, and received his degrees from Harvard.  He specializes in European archaeology, especially of the Bronze & Iron Ages, the Roman Period, and the early medieval period, and has been Director of excavations at the late Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements of Hascherkeller, Altdorf, and Kelheim in Bavaria.  His recent main publications include Barbarians to Angels: The Dark Ages Reconsidered (2008) and Image and Response in Early Europe (2008).  Professor Wells’s The Barbarians Speak: How the Conquered Peoples Shaped Roman Europe (1999) was named “Outstanding Title of 1999” by the Profession and Scholarly Division of the Association of American Publishers.
