AIA Lecturer: Susan McIntosh

Susan Keech McIntosh has been a member of the Rice University Faculty since 1982. Susan did her undergrad work at the University of Pennsylvannia in Anthropology and Graduated summa cum laude in 1973. From there she went to earn a Masters in Archaeology from Cambridge University and her PhD in Anthropology from University of California at Santa Barbara. Her major interests are in the origins of complex societies. Specifically: West African Iron Age archaeology, human osteology and ceramic analysis. Her current research interests are in early urbanism in West Africa and archaeological investigations in the Niger and Middle Senegal Valley, Senegal.
