On February 2, 2019, the AIA held a special event at the University of Southern California’s Bovard Auditorium. Despite rainy weather, well over 250 people of all ages came to hear AIA Trustees Sarah Parcak, National Geographic Society Archaeology Fellow, winner of the million-dollar 2016 TED Prize, and founder of GlobalXplorer°, and Josh Gates, member of The Explorers Club and host of Discovery’s Expedition Unknown. Parcak and Gates spoke on a range of topics including their experiences in the field and their thoughts on the future of archaeology. They touched on new technologies that are being used in the field, the importance of our shared human story, and how to make archaeology more accessible to all. As time allowed, audience members, some of whom had traveled from other states and even outside the U.S., had the opportunity to ask questions of the presenters. A subset of attendees were  able to meet  Sarah Parcak and Josh Gates at a pre-event reception and after-party. The event received an overwhelmingly positive response from those who came.
