Roxborough State Park in Littleton, Colorado celebrated International Archeology Day with a fair that was educational and fun for visitors of all ages. This day marked the culmination of two years of focus on three major efforts: finalization of an exhibit educating our visitors about this National Archaeological District; completion of a digital inventory of all of the park's prehistoric artifacts; and development of written materials for naturalist and visitor training in archaeology.
The new exhibit was dedicated at the fair with the Office of the State Archaeologist of Colorado performing the ribbon cutting. Visitors enjoyed a lecture series, demonstrations and displays by naturalists and a flint knapper, hands-on activities using ancient tools and materials, an Archaic snack stand, hiking or riding to view archaeological sites with trained volunteers, and a lively kids area.
