SUMMARY:International Archaeology Day at Poverty Point World Heritage Site
DESCRIPTION:INTERNATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGY DAY AT POVERTY POINT WORLD HERITAGE SITE \nPoverty Point World Heritage Site invites visitors to take part in celebrating International Archaeology Day on Saturday\, Oct. 16. From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.\, there will be a variety of activities highlighting how life may have been for the native inhabitants thousands of years ago.\nGuests can learn about spear-throwing with an atlatl and even try it out for themselves or watch as stone tools are created during flint knapping demos. You can also assist our site archaeologists in their work. They will be conducting water screening where loads of excavated soil are washed in order to find artifacts. \nAt the time of this posting\, visitors and staff are required to wear face masks while indoors. \nPoverty Point World Heritage Site offers visitors the unique opportunity to experience and learn about the earthworks and those individuals who raised them from the ground between the years of 1700 and 1100 BCE. The $4 admission fee provides access to the museum\, film theatre\, hiking trail\, driving tour\, seasonal tram tour\, and interpretive events. Children (3 and under) and senior citizens (62 and over) are admitted free of charge. \nPoverty Point is located in West Carroll Parish\, east of Monroe on LA 577.
