The Tombs of the Nobles are the burial places of some of the powerful courtiers and persons of the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes (modern Luxor). Located on the west bank of the Nile, near the temples of the deified kings, there are at least 415 catalogued tombs. Thanks to almost 200 years of archaeological investigation, these tombs have told us much about the people who ruled the powerful Egyptian empire and about the lives of artists, merchants, sailors, soldiers, and farmers who were their contemporaries.
