Hugh Elton, (Trent University) is the author of Warfare in Roman Europe, AD 350 - 425 (1996) is a frequent contributor to volumes on the topic, most recently, War and Warfare in Late Antiquity (2013).

He will discuss  sieges at Dura-Europus and Edessa, both fortified cites in Syria, and Aquileia and Rome in Italy and show how this type of combat reflected the changing ecological, political and military conditions in late antiquity.
