Journey through some of Greece’s spectacular, lesser-visited regions. Gaze on Byzantine monasteries atop the towering pinnacles of Meteora; the cloud-shrouded peak of Mt. Olympus, home of the ancient Greek gods; and remote, medieval villages in the Pindus Mountains. See Macedonian royal tombs with fabulous gold jewelry and frescoes; magnificent Byzantine churches and icons; and the archaeological sites of Dion, Dodoni, and Philippi. Enjoy comfortable, mostly luxurious, accommodations, including three nights at a mountain resort and spa. Limited to just 12 participants.

Highlights

Four UNESCO World Heritage sites: Athens’ Acropolis, Meteora’s renowned monasteries perched atop karst pinnacles, Byzantine (and Roman) Thessaloniki, and ancient Aigai (modern Vergina), with its royal Macedonian tombs and treasures.
Sites connected to Macedonia’s King Philip II and his son, Alexander (the Great), including Pella, where both were born; Dion, where they made sacrifices to Zeus at the foot of Mt. Olympus; and Philippi, founded by Philip II, where Antony and Octavian defeated Brutus and Cassius in 42 B.C.
The lesser-visited archaeological sites of Amphipolis and Dodoni, one of the ancient world’s greatest oracles, second only to Delphi.
A lunch and wine tasting at the Katogi Averoff winery in the picturesque mountain village of Metsovo.
Ioannina, the capital of the Epirus region, which spreads out around beautiful Lake Pamvotis.
The magnificent Pindus Mountains with the spectacular Vikos Gorge, remote villages, and a splendid mountain resort/spa.
