Congratulations to the Worcester Society for winning the 2027 Golden Trowel Award! Between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026, the Worcester Society achieved a growth of 36%.
The Worcester Society had a large presence in their local community over the course of the year, hosting several lectures as well as a Society Outreach Event on jewelry-making, all of which were greatly appreciated by attendees and participants. Additionally, the Society supported a middle school robotics team, the Neon Nerdettes, as they worked on their 2025-2026 First Lego League project.
Society President Ellen Perry shares the following quote from a Worcester Society student member, Martin Connolly, who won a raffle to receive a complimentary student membership: “Over the past year, it’s just been really cool reading [in ARCHAEOLOGY magazine] about all of the archaeological projects going on on topics that we study at Holy Cross, such as Greece, Rome and Egypt. Moreover, it is also very interesting to see archaeological work being done on topics that I have not studied before, like in Peru and Arabia. However, what intrigued me the most was how archaeologists were digging at Bunker Hill this summer, in an attempt to find more artifacts from the Battle of Bunker Hill I had never thought that archaeology would ever study something so recent, let alone only a few miles from my house!”
