A panel to help archaeology graduate students navigate the current funding landscape and better understand the opportunities available to support their research hosted by the Archaeological Centers Coalition. Representatives from major funding organizations, experienced scholars, and students will discuss what different programs support, how funders evaluate proposals, and what makes an application competitive. The conversation will offer practical guidance on identifying appropriate opportunities, developing a strong project, and approaching the application process strategically, followed by ample time for audience questions.
Panelists:
Kate Rose is the Director of Programs at the Institute for Field Research and a research fellow at the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures, University of Chicago.
Debora Trein is a Senior Director in the Science and Innovation division at the National Geographic Society, where she oversees Human Histories and Cultures, and Space scientific funding.
Dimitri Nakassis is the Archaeological Institute of America’s Vice President for Research and Academic Affairs and a College Professor of Distinction at the University of Colorado Boulder.
Linda Musumeci is Director of Grants and Fellowships at the American Philosophical Society, which, among other funding programs, offers the Lewis and Clark Fund for Exploration and Field Research in support of doctoral students.
Phillip Mendenhall is an assistant curator at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and a PhD candidate at the University of Pittsburgh researching the Eastern Woodlands.
MyKayla Williamson, MA, RPA, is a researcher of Black Atlantic afterlives and a current PhD candidate at Stanford University.
Danilyn Rutherford is a sociocultural anthropologist and President of the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research.
Chip Colwell is an archaeologist, author, and the Program Director for Public Anthropology at the Wenner-Gren Foundation.
