AIA Statement Regarding the Incidents at the Joint Annual Meeting

by AIA

The AIA seeks to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members and attendees at our events and condemns in the strongest possible terms hateful speech and behavior.  Although the disturbing incidents at this year’s Joint Annual Meeting in San Diego occurred in connection with the SCS, such incidents impact us all and are symptomatic of broader problems in our disciplines and in society as a whole.  The AIA has already issued a preliminary statement, and will prepare new guidelines and policies to promote diversity and respectful behavior in venues or situations not covered by our current policies.  In the interim, we support the statement and Presidential Letter issued by the SCS.
