AJA Book Review Editor Announcement


We’re pleased to welcome Dr. Lisa R. Brody as the next Book Review Editor for the American Journal of Archaeology!

Dr. Lisa R. Brody is Associate Curator of Ancient Art at the Yale University Art Gallery. She holds a B.A. from Yale University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. A classical archaeologist with extensive field experience, she has excavated in the United States, Portugal, Greece, and Turkey. Prior to joining the staff at YUAG in 2007, she taught art history and classical archaeology at numerous institutions, including Notre Dame, Oregon State University, and Queens College, CUNY. In addition to overseeing the permanent installations of ancient art at the Yale University Art Gallery, she has organized two special exhibitions at YUAG—Dura-Europos: Crossroads of Antiquity (2011) and Roman in the Provinces: Art on the Periphery of Empire (2015)—and coedited their accompanying publications. She is also the curator of an upcoming exhibition at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Figures from the Fire: J. Pierpont Morgan’s Ancient Bronzes at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, and author of the exhibition catalogue. She has written numerous book chapters, journal articles, and book reviews, and her recent research has focused on Dura-Europos, Palmyra, and intercultural connections in the Roman Near East.
