The Archaeological Institute of America is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Alexandra Pappas and Dr. Holly M. Sypniewski as the next joint Editors-in-Chief of the American Journal of Archaeology (AJA).
Alexandra Pappas, Professor and Raoul Bertrand Chair in Classics at San Francisco State University, is co-author of In Love with Wisdom: Ancient Greek and Early Buddhist Philosophies (Wisdom Publications/Simon & Schuster, 2026). Her primary research has been on the intermedial relationships between ancient Greek words and images from the Archaic through Hellenistic periods—on pots, the stage, and the page.
Holly M. Sypniewski, Professor of History at Clarkson University, is the Assistant Director of the Ancient Graffiti Project. Her current research focuses on the ancient graffiti of Pompeii and Herculaneum—including Matteo Della Corte’s archived research materials—and Roman social history.
We warmly welcome them both to the AJA and wish them success in the years to come. You can reach them at ajaeic@archaeological.org beginning July 1, 2026.
