AJA Museum Review Editor Announcement


We’re pleased to welcome Dr. Elizabeth Macaulay as the next Museum Review Editor for the American Journal of Archaeology

Dr. Macaulay is an Associate Professor in the Liberal Studies and Middle Eastern Programs at the Graduate Center, CUNY, where she also serves as the Executive Officer for the M.A. in Liberal Studies and directs the concentration in archaeology of the Classical, Late Antique, and Islamic worlds. An archaeologist and architectural historian, she has conducted fieldwork in Italy, Greece, Jordan, Egypt, and Syria. Her research focuses the material culture of the Roman, Late Antique, and Islamic worlds, with particular emphasis on Roman gardens and architecture, as well as Islamic architecture and the reception of ancient material culture in the United States. Dr. Macaulay is the author or editor of six books and serves as the Director of Manar al-Athar, an open-access digital humanities resource for the study of the Middle East. She is currently a Contributing Editor for Art of the Islamic World for Smarthistory.org and the Chairperson of Smarthistory’s Governing Board.
