Field School Scholar Spotlight: Bianca Chiacchia


Lindores Abbey, Newburgh, Fife, Scotland – Bianca Chiacchia with finds she excavated from the Kitchen at Lindores Abbey.

16 students received AIA Field School Scholarships in 2025. Made possible through the Jane C. Waldbaum Archaeological Field School Scholarships and the newly established American School of Prehistoric Research Scholarships and Laura Obolensky Scholarships, these awards support emerging archaeologists as they gain hands-on experience at sites across the globe. Advice for future scholarship winners going on their first digs?

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself if you don’t have field experience yet – that is what field schools are for! Take a deep breath and just embrace the experience. You will learn all the skills you need as you go!
