Project Description:
This professional development workshop uses Terrestrial LiDAR and GIS analysis to visualize and digitally preserve Egmont Key’s endangered heritage, and teaches students the fundamentals of tracking changes to at-risk archaeological sites with the Florida Public Archaeology Networks’ Heritage Monitoring Scouts program. Participants will learn valuable technological skills while adding to the research on the historic Fort Dade occupation of Egmont Key, which is threatened by coastal erosion driven by sea level rise.

Methods:
Participants receive in-depth training in terrestrial LiDAR data collection with FARO Focus x330 and s150 laser scanners, and learn how to process drone-derived GIS data for mapping applications, create DSM models using NOAA data from aerial LiDAR flights over Egmont Key.

Fees:
This professional development workshop carries an $800 fee. The fee includes expert instruction, high-dollar value laser scanning equipment, boat transportation to Egmont Key, and an @Access3D Gold Badge upon completion of the work. USF credit is not included in the $800 project fee. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from the
Egmont Key marina, within Fort DeSoto. Scholarships may be available.

Academic Credit:
This professional training is open to all professionals in any field, and for USF students, there is the option to earned elective credit by registering for IDS 6938: Applied Heritage and Sustainability Research. The course project includes graphics, maps and a written research assignment that expands upon the workshop training. All participants are eligible to earn an @Access3D Gold Badge - Access 3D Lab’s highest certification of applied technology skills.
