Initial Slate for 2026 Governing Board Elections

The Nominating Committee of the Archaeological Institute of America is charged with assembling a slate for the 2026 Governing Board Elections.  

The Nominating Committee consists of Beth Greene (Co-Chair) and Sue Alcock (Co-Chair); the other members are Elie Abemayor, Richard Leventhal, Laura Rich, and Jo Anne Tilburg. 

The following positions on the slate have been confirmed: 

President: Three-year term (2026-2029) 
Candidate: Brian I. Daniels (run unopposed) 

First Vice President: Three-year term (2026-2029) 
Two Candidates: Kim Shelton & Ömür Harmanşah 

Vice President for Outreach and Education: Two-year term (2026-2028) 
Candidate: Jennifer Thum (renewing to term two

General Trustee Position 1: Three-year term (2026-2029) 
Candidate: Andrea Kmetz-Sheehy (renewing to term two

General Trustee Position 2: Three-year term (2026-2029) 
Candidate: Kathleen Pavelko (renewing to term two

Society Trustee Position: Three-year term (2026-2029) 
Candidate: Heidi James Fischer (confirmation of earlier appointment) 

The Nominating Committee is currently reviewing nominations and finalizing the slate for the following positions: 

Academic Trustee (2 positions): Three-year term (2026-2029) 
The Committee is working to identify four qualified candidates for these two positions. The Committee is reviewing candidates for this position. 

General Trustee Position (2 positions): Three-year term (2026-2029) 
The Committee is reviewing candidates for these positions. 

Important Notes for AIA Members: 

  • The nomination period closed in April 2025, and the Committee received strong responses from the membership. 
  • Additional suggestions may still be submitted for consideration by AIA members before September 1, 2025. Email suggestions to Beth, Sue, and Katy Monaco (kmonaco@archaeological.org).  
  • The final ballot will be announced in the fall ahead of the January 2026 Annual Meeting.
