Milwaukee Society Wins Best AIA Local Society Program Online Contest
Congratulations to the AIA-Milwaukee Society—the winner of the 2012-2013 Best AIA Local Society Program online contest!
In honor of National Archaeology Day, 2012, the AIA-Milwaukee Society and the Archaeological Research Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee organized a Lab open house on “The Archaeology of Food and Drink.” Archaeologists from UW-Milwaukee, Marquette University, Discovery World, and the Milwaukee Public Museum presented displays and hands-on demonstrations illustrating how peoples in several different cultures procured and prepared their food and drink. More than 50 visitors sampled a variety of tasty Maya, Celtic, Roman, and Kwakiutl treats, learned the right starter (spit) for maize beer, or chicha, and took home recipes
Â
As an award, the Milwaukee Society received $200 that will go towards future Society programming and a certificate commemorating their achievement.
Â
A special mention also goes to the Ottawa, Central Arizona, Boston, Western Illinois, Cincinnati, Tucson, Minnesota, Southwest Texas, and Cleveland Societies for their great events and participation in the contest. Â Keep up the creativity and great local programming!
