Milwaukee Society Wins Best AIA Local Society Program Online Contest
Congratulations to the AIA-Milwaukee Society—the winner of the 2012-2013 Best AIA Local Society Program online contest!
In honor of National Archaeology Day, 2012, the AIA-Milwaukee Society and the Archaeological Research Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee organized a Lab open house on “The Archaeology of Food and Drink.” Archaeologists from UW-Milwaukee, Marquette University, Discovery World, and the Milwaukee Public Museum presented displays and hands-on demonstrations illustrating how peoples in several different cultures procured and prepared their food and drink. More than 50 visitors sampled a variety of tasty Maya, Celtic, Roman, and Kwakiutl treats, learned the right starter (spit) for maize beer, or chicha, and took home recipes
As an award, the Milwaukee Society received $200 that will go towards future Society programming and a certificate commemorating their achievement.
A special mention also goes to the Ottawa, Central Arizona, Boston, Western Illinois, Cincinnati, Tucson, Minnesota, Southwest Texas, and Cleveland Societies for their great events and participation in the contest. Keep up the creativity and great local programming!
