Missouri Egyptolgists and Local Teachers Meet to “Unwrap Ancient Egypt”

In 2019 the AIA-Central Missouri Society received an AIA Society Outreach Grant to support an October 2019 conference in Springfield, Missouri: Unwrapping Ancient Egypt.  Beyond being an academic gathering, the conference aimed to build bridges between academic Egyptologists in Missouri and local middle and high school teachers.  The conference had three parts: a symposium of Missouri Egyptologists giving twenty minute presentations on their current research, a student poster session where Missouri State University students presented research projects on Ancient Egypt, and an educators’ workshop for K-12 teachers and teachers in training.
The conference was featured on the local news and you can see the clip here:

Initial feedback was very positive and the conference organizers hope to continue to develop the educators’ workshop in future years at Missouri State University and to move the Egyptology symposium around to different cities in Missouri annually to make it accessible to more audiences.
