Kharkhorin Complex in Mongolia

Kharkhorin, Ovorkhangai, Mongolia

Category: Archaeological Landscapes

Kharkhorin was the capital of the Mongol Empire. This is a photo of a modern ger with a traditional hand-painted door within the Kharkhorin complex with the royal complex of Kublai Khan behind. This shows how the traditions of Mongolia from thousands of years ago are still used to this day but as the Mongol Empire advanced they also adopted architectural styles of the Yuan Dynasty in China.
