The Sanchi Great Stupa’s North Torana (view from the south). The monument was commissioned by the Maurya Dynasty king Ashoka the Great (reigned c. 268-232 BC) and was extensively upgraded by the rulers of the succeeding Shunga and Satavahana Dynasties.
