Machu Picchu

Cuzco, Cuzco, Peru

Category: Archaeological Landscapes

Machu Picchu, Peru is a citadel of the Inka built high in the Andes Mountains, above the Urubamba River valley as an estate for the Inka emperor Pachacuti (1438–1472) and used for 80 years before being abandoned at the time of the Spanish conquest, though they never reached the site.
