Members of the Rochester Society of the Archaeological Institute of America staffed four information and activity tables at the Rochester Museum and Science Center in honor of National Archaeology Day. The tables offered a range of archaeological literature, artifacts and hands-on activities for museum patrons of all ages. The Rochester Society would like to thank the Memorial Art Gallery for the loan of a number of replica artifacts and educational activity kits for the event.
The AIA-Rochester Society also sponsored a National Archaeology Day lecture, “Building Roma Aeterna: Structural Engineering in Imperial Rome” at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. The lecture was presented by Dr. Renato Perruchio, a member of the society. Dr. Perruchio presented a detailed look at certain aspects of the structural engineering, and in particular the use of concrete, in three famous Roman monuments.
