Archaeology Day at the University of Alberta: A Day of Hands-On History

Archaeology Day at the University of Alberta, hosted by the AIA-Edmonton Society, was full of excitement and discovery! The atrium was buzzing with activity thanks to 12 tables hosted by research projects, student groups, CRM firms, museums, and local societies. Visitors also enjoyed special access to the W.G. Hardy Collection of Ancient Near Eastern and Classical Antiquities in the Department of History, Classics, and Religion, as well as guided tours of the archaeology labs in the Department of Anthropology.

Hands-on experiences were a highlight of the day. The flintknapping demonstrations and pottery-drawing workshops were especially popular, drawing steady interest from attendees of all ages. The student poster session and competition was another standout, showcasing the impressive archaeological research being done by current students.

Overall, Archaeology Day offered a fantastic interdisciplinary networking opportunity for students, faculty, and the wider archaeological community.
