What We Accomplished Together in FY2026
In last month’s AIA e-Update, we highlighted some of the Archaeological Institute of America’s accomplishments from the past fiscal year. None of these achievements would have been possible without the support of our members, donors, volunteers, Local Societies, partners, and the broader AIA community.
Together, we advanced archaeological research, expanded educational opportunities, and advocated for the protection of cultural heritage around the world. Here are just a few highlights from FY2026:
Excavate
- 90 fellowships and grants awarded to support archaeological fieldwork, research, preservation, publication, and attendance at the 2026 Annual Meeting.
- $229,982.50 awarded in fellowship and grant funding.
- 1,787 attendees connected at the 2026 Annual Meeting, including 220 virtual participants from around the world.
Educate
- 27 scholarships awarded to help students gain hands-on experience in archaeological fieldwork and museum studies.
- 140,000 copies of ARCHAEOLOGY magazine distributed per issue to subscribers.
- 8 Society Outreach Grants awarded to Local Societies in Georgia, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.
- 177 lectures supported through AIA Local Societies and online programs.
Advocate
- AIA members and supporters participated in Cultural Property Advisory Committee (CPAC) advocacy efforts involving 10 countries, including Cameroon, Colombia, Türkiye, Afghanistan, Bolivia, Egypt, Greece, Albania, Nigeria, and Romania.
Every fellowship awarded, lecture presented, scholarship funded, and advocacy effort undertaken reflects the collective impact of the AIA community. Thank you for helping us excavate the past, educate the public, and advocate for the protection of our shared cultural heritage. We look forward to building on this momentum together in the year ahead.
