The Battle of Nashville occurred over a large area of the city on December 15th and 16th, 1864. Much of the battlefield has been developed and has seen little scientific study. Recent multidisciplinary archaeological studies have documented elements of the battle for the first time. These studies not only allow for a reconstruction of specific engagements during the battle, they demonstrate that evidence of this conflict still exists in areas believed to have been impacted and can still be studied and preserved.
