Town Hall on Saving Sites in America: Preserve Your Heritage and Your Voice!

Join the AIA on Wednesday, November 4, to learn what’s at stake for America’s historic and cultural resources and how you can help protect them.

Last week, the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) called on members and supporters to contact their members of Congress and oppose the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act (BAAJA). Thank you to everyone who has already called or written to their representatives to make their voices heard!

But what’s at stake, and why does it matter?

Join AIA President Brian Daniels for the AIA Town Hall on Saving Sites in America to learn more about the potential impacts of the legislation, why the AIA is concerned, and what you can do to help safeguard America’s cultural heritage.

The town hall will explore the importance of Section 106, a process that gives the public an opportunity to have a voice when federally funded or permitted projects may affect historic and cultural resources. These protections help communities safeguard important places, including archaeological sites, monuments, historic neighborhoods, battlefields, sacred Tribal landscapes, and Main Streets.

Panelists Sarah Miller of the Florida Public Archaeology Network and Elizabeth Reetz of the Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist will share examples of Section 106 successes and discuss why these protections matter. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions and learn how they can get involved.
