“Archaeologist for a Day” in Providence, RI

On October 20th 2012, the Narragansett Chapter of the AIA celebrated National Archaeology Day with the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World and the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology. Chapter members, Providence residents, and family members visiting for Brown Parents’ Weekend got together on the Quiet Lawn of the Brown University campus. The fun quizzes compelled visitors to participate in the JIAAW tour, the Community Dig on the lawn, and the Haffenreffer’s mock dig for families (which complemented the live excavation on the lawn). Participants won trowels, Archaeology magazines, and more! It was a beautiful day to be outside and learn more about archaeology.
