Archaeology Day Celebrations Kick Off with Fair in Cincinnati

Graduate Students of the University of Cincinnati Classics Department

On Oct. 3, 2015, the AIA-Cincinnati Society sponsored an archaeology fair titled Cincinnati Digs! held in the Cincinnati Art Museum.  The event celebrated not just International Archaeology Day but the opening of the Museum’s newly dedicated antiquities gallery, and was the result of co-operation among the Cincinnati Society, University of Cincinnati Departments of Classics and of Anthropology, and the Museum’s staff and volunteers. There were demonstrations and lectures by archaeologists from many Cincinnati-based institutions, as well as roving Roman re-enactors, pottery-making demonstrations, opportunities for kids to design their own Greek vase or Roman mosaic, and the chance to see and handle real stone tools, animal bones, and Bronze Age and Greek pottery vessels.
