The Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge joined as a Collaborating Organization for National Archaeology Day and will hold an event on October 20. On that day, Duncan Ritchie, Senior Archaeologist at the Public Archaeology Laboratory, will give a presentation on the findings of a Spring 2010 extensive (Phase III) archaeological survey conducted along the former Craven Lane (now Winterberry Way) at Puffer Pond. The site contains evidence of repeated occupation over an estimated 7,500 year span from the Middle Archaic to Late Woodland Periods and added much to what is known about Native American settlement patterns, site formation processes and lithic technology in the combined Sudbury/Assabet/Concord river drainage.
