Call for Nominations to the AIA Governing Board

Dear AIA Members,

As Chair of the Nominating Committee of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA), I invite your participation in identifying outstanding candidates to serve on the AIA Governing Board. I am grateful to my fellow committee members—Elizabeth Bartman, Julie Herzig Desnick, Betsey Robinson, Kathleen Pavelko, and Jo Anne Van Tilburg—for their partnership in this important work. I would also like to thank Katy Monaco, who serves as Staff Liaison, for her continued support throughout the nominations process.

The Nominating Committee is currently accepting nominations for the following positions, with terms beginning in January 2027:

We encourage members of the AIA community to submit nominations of individuals who would bring strong leadership, engagement, and a commitment to advancing the Institute’s mission. Candidates must be current AIA members. Additional details regarding qualifications and roles can be found in Articles IV and VI of the AIA Regulations, which can be viewed here.

Board members are expected to demonstrate a strong interest in archaeology and a broad understanding of the field. They play an active role in governance and contribute to initiatives that support the AIA’s strategic priorities, including fundraising and organizational development. The Committee is particularly committed to fostering a Board that reflects a wide range of perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds, strengthening the work and impact of the Institute.

Self-nominations are warmly encouraged.

To submit a nomination, please complete the nomination form here:

Submit a Nomination

Deadline: Thursday, April 30

The form will ask for basic information about the nominee, including contact details and a brief statement outlining why the individual (or you, if self-nominating) would be a strong candidate. You may also upload a CV or resume to support the nomination.

All submissions will be carefully reviewed by the Nominating Committee as we develop a thoughtful and balanced slate of candidates.

If you plan to approach a potential nominee, please clarify that your outreach is informal and does not guarantee placement on the ballot or election. However, it is helpful to confirm their willingness to serve if selected.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss a potential nomination, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you for your engagement and for supporting the future leadership of the AIA.

Sincerely,

Eric Cline
