Archaeology Day at Fort King
October 17 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Sponsored by: AIA-Tampa Bay Society, USF Archaeology Club
AIA Society: Tampa Bay
In partnership with the Gulf Archaeology Research Institute, the USF Archaeology Club and the Tampa Bay Society of the AIA are organizing a field trip up to Fort King National Historic Landmark in Ocala, FL. Fort King is a reconstructed 19th-century border settlement that preserves the history of the Second Seminole War – a conflict between the United States and the Seminole people who are now organized into three federally recognized tribes: the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, the Seminole Tribe of Florida, and the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida. Scholars at the GARI have organized a full day trip from 9 am-2:30 pm, which will include tours, archaeological events, and activities related to the historical preservation of the site. Participants will have to complete a waiver, and we are organizing carpools from the USF campus. For further information, please contact the president of the Tampa Bay Society: jjobert@usf.edu.
