Through the ages around the world with clothes on the back

October 16, 2021 @ 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Muzeum Górnośląskie w Bytomiu
pl. Jana III Sobieskiego 2
Bytom, Silesian Voivodship 41-902 Poland

There’s no International Day of Archeology last year because of lockdown. This year we’re going to repeat that event within the walls of our museum. The subject is as close as a shirt to the body, because the title is “Through the ages around the world with clothes on the back”. During the lecture you will find out, among others how did it even happen that our very distant ancestors began to wear clothes, what was the difference between a chiton and a toga, and what did the brooches look like and what were. The “Medieval Chic” shows are an opportunity to meet face to face with the knight and his lady, as well as with early medieval warriors and whiteheads. For children, we offer workshops on the production of ornaments – bracelets, pendants as well as frames and pouches. We will host a historical reconstruction group – late medieval Chorągiew Ziemi Górnośląskiej from Toszek Castle and early medieval Golęszycka Drużyna Dąb.
