Colorado Desert Cultural Symposium
November 1 – 3, 2013 in Borrego Springs, CA
Join us for a captivating gathering as we explore the cultural history of our southern California desert. The weekend of events will include a reception, speakers, field trips, and poster presentations. Please see Call for POSTERS below.
The Colorado Desert Cultural Symposium will include a program of accomplished speakers on various cultural subjects including history, ethnography, prehistory, and archaeology of the region. The event will provide an opportunity for students, professional and amateur researchers and scientists, park lovers, and desert enthusiasts to come together to learn about the diverse research that has taken place in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the surrounding Colorado Desert.
Welcome Reception & Poster Presentations
Friday, November 1
6:00 - 9:00 PM
Symposium welcome reception will feature research posters from students and professionals. Refreshments and appetizers will be served. Location TBA
Symposium Presentations
Saturday, November 2
A full day of presentations will be held at Borrego Springs Resort in the De Anza Ballroom.
Banquet Dinner
Saturday, November 2
A banquet dinner will take place at The Arches Restaurant at Borrego Springs Resort. Tickets for the banquet are $30 each.
Symposium Field Tours
Sunday, November 3
8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Join us Sunday morning for field tours to various locations within Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Your choice of trip is included with Symposium registration and your selection will be made at program check-in. Breakfast is on your own. Trips are rain or shine. (Select trips may begin earlier than 8:00 AM.)
Call for Posters:
If you are conducting cultural research focusing on the Colorado Desert region, ABF invites you to submit a poster for consideration for our poster reception.  
Posters are sought on original research in archaeology, anthropology, history, cultural issues related to renewable energy projects, and preservation of cultural resources.  Posters will be featured during the Friday evening welcome reception. 
Submit abstracts by September 30, 2013 to  Include "Poster Submission" in the email subject.  For more information about poster submission, visit the event page HERE.
