International Archaeology Day Celebrated in Belize

The Belize Institute of Archaeology hosted two archaeology fairs in celebration of International Archaeology Day 2015. One fair was held in the capital city of Belmopan on Friday, October 16 while the other was held in the small town of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye on Friday, October 23. The theme of this year’s archaeology fair was Ancient Maya Technology and approximately 575 people attended the two fairs. The fairs comprised of several different displays which highlighted various aspects of Ancient Maya Technology including pottery making, food processing (cacao and corn), rope making and basket weaving, writing, spear throwing (atlatl), and slate carving. The display also included a small artifact exhibition which showcased the pieces that related to Ancient Maya Technology.
