International Archaeology Day Surpasses 50 Collaborating Organizations


The Museum of Art and Archaeology at the University  of Missouri, Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex, Wyoming Archaeological Society, Alabama Archaeological Society, Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology, Illinois State Archaeological Survey/Prairie Research Institute-University of Illinois, Marquette Regional History Center. Arkansas Archeological Survey, Alexandria Archaeology, and the Moundville Archaeological Park all have joined International Archaeology Day as Collaborating Organizations.

Events will encompass a range of activities. One of the largest will be the Moundville Archaeological Park in Alabama’s Native American Festival from October 9th to 12th.  This event will include tours of the site, living history presentations, performances and vendors selling crafts and food. The Marquette Regional History Museum in Michigan will be holding a kids Archaeology Fair on October 19th.  Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex in West Virginia will be hosting events at the Museum and a symposium on early Americans on the 5th and 24th of October respectively. The Haffenreffer Museum in Rhode Island will host an event on the 19th during Brown University Parents Weekend. The Arkansas Archeological Survey will be hosting an open lab day at their Blytheville Station on October 12th.  Alexandria Archaeology is hosting a Symposium on the 19th discussing the use of Laser and other technologies in archaeology. Finally, the Wyoming and Alabama Archaeological Societies will be promoting the day through their October society monthly meetings.  Please check the International Archaeology Day Calendar for information on all the events listed thus far.
