Jeannine Davis-Kimball received her Ph.D. in Art History and Archaeology from the University of California, Berkeley, and in 1989 established the American Eurasian Research Institute (AERI) and its subsidiaries, the Center for the Study of Eurasian Nomads (CSEN) and Zinat Press, where she is currently Executive Director. She has edited the works of many Russian scholars to present heretofore unavailable literature in English, including The Silk Road and the Cities of the Golden Horde (Zinat Press 2001); Kurgan, Ritual Sites, and Settlements: Eurasian Bronze Age and Iron Age (Oxford 2000); Nomads of the Eurasian Steppes in the Early Iron Age (Zinat Press 1995); and co-authored Kurgans on the Left Bank of the Ilek: Excavations at Pokrovka 1990-1992 (Zinat Press 1995). She has written more than forty articles for popular and scholarly journals, anthologies, and encyclopedias, and lectured extensively on her work, most recently at the Smithsonian Institution, Explorer’s Club (NY) and the Metropolitan Museum. Her most recent work with Mona Behan, Warrior Women: An Archeologist’s Search for History’s Hidden Heroines is the first mainstream book to explore the lost world of women warriors from Europe to Asia.
