Making Pottery at Parkin Archeological State Park for International Archaeology Day 2013

Parkin Archeological State Park commemorated International Archaeology Day 2013 by offering a primitive pottery workshop. Participants learned about how the Mississippian Indians created coil pottery and then they made their own pots from clay dug from the bank of the St. Francis River, adjacent to the Parkin archeological site. The pots were fired in an open fire pit on November 16 and they are happy to report that all survived!
