Mississippi Archaeology Expo held on National Archaeology Day


On National Archaeology Day, the Central Mississippi chapter participated in the Mississippi Archaeology Expo held on the campus of Millsaps College.  Approximately 1000 people attended the day-long event featuring educational and fun activities for all ages, such as demonstrations of archaeological techniques as well as prehistoric and historic lifeways.   Activities included demonstrations by members of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Civil War re-enactors in recognition of the Civil War Sesquicentennial, Artifact Identification, Atlatl (Spear) Throwing, Prehistoric Technology Stations,  Artifact Displays,  Pottery Design/Making,  Rock Art Wall, Flint knapping, Demonstration Dig for Kids, and Ground Penetrating Radar demonstrations (GPR).
