International Archaeology Day 2025 was on Saturday, October 18. The AIA Narragansett Society hosted a Community Archaeology Day event, which included an open house and an excavation. The open house featured local experts staffing interactive displays of pottery, coins, a loom, skeletal casts, a Total Station, and even a Roman Legion living history group! Plus, just down the street, the students of Brown University’s Archaeology of College Hill class hosted visitors at their dig site – the foundations of a 19th century home on Brown’s campus. We had several dozen visitors stop by to share in the fun, ranging from elementary schoolers to retirees. Community Archaeology Day was a great success and it is always a delight to share our love of archaeology with the public! You can read up on some of the other events that AIA Societies received IAD Grants for here.
