North Alabama Celebrates International Archaeology Day

AtlAtl Throwing

Building on their International Archaeology Day program from last year, the AIA-North Alabama Society shifted their Archaeology Fair from the local university campus to historic Lowe Mill, a large former textile mill, now a rising home for music, art, and culture. The event coincided with the weekly open studio day, so some visitors were there specifically for this year’s event and others dropped in because it looked fun! They had an archaeology lab tour, information tables, and hands-on activities including pottery making, atlatl throwing, the Native American game, chunkey, and a flint-knapping demo. In the evening a public lecture on “Eating in the Valley: Woodland Foodways along the Tennessee River.” was offered
