Poverty Point State Historic Site Hosts Full Moon Hike for International Archaeology Day

The Poverty Point State Historic Site hosted a ranger-led Full Moon Hike to celebrate International Archaeology Day 2013. The hike was on October 19, 2013 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. It allowed the 60 participants to experience the site in a new way and explore its ancient earthworks by moonlight. The ranger led participants down the two mile trail, discussing the prehistoric mounds and the culture that dates back to 1600 B.C. Visitors were able to climb Mound A to stargaze and get a bird’s eye view of the site. The evening concluded with storytelling and roasting marshmellows over a roaring campfire. They hope to see everyone back for International Archaeology Day next year and every month for the full moon!
