Presidio Trust Holds Open House for International Archaeology Day

Piecing together broken pottery

The Presidio Archaeology Lab participated in International Archaeology Day on October 19th. They hosted an open house of their lab and collections facility, lead tours of their archaeological sites, and had hands-on activities for families including making adobe bricks and puzzling broken ceramics together.  Over 50 people came out to view their new lab and collections facility and to see what artifacts they have uncovered at the site. The Presidio has a site with layers of history spanning from the Native Ohlone Indians to the Spanish colonists to the Mexican era. Since the Presidio is a former American Military base, there are a lot of artifacts that represent these different eras.
