Primitive Pottery Workshop at Parkin Archaeology State Park

Parkin Archeological State Park celebrated International Archaeology Day by offering a Primitive Pottery Workshop on Saturday, October 26, 2013. Before the workshop, Park Interpreter Mel Z. Harvey dug clay from the banks of the St. Francis River and added burned and crushed mussel shells as temper. Participants created coil pots in the fashion that the prehistoric Indians who inhabited ancient Parkin would have done. The pots are currently drying and will be fired in an open pit on November 16, 2013, at which point they will be returned to the participants. This workshop is held annually and is always a fun and educational activity.
