For International Archaeology Day 2013, The Plano Conservancy for Historic Preservation, Inc. and Geo-Marine presented the 2013 Plano Archaeology Fair on Saturday, October 19. Plano’s Bob Woodruff Park was filled with pint-sized explorers, budding artists and junior archaeologists visiting the park for the event.
“This free event is always great fun for all involved. Children, parents, grandparents, volunteers and educators enjoyed a day full of unique learning opportunities,” said Plano Conservancy Co-Director Russell C. Kissick of Plano. “This event is a wonderful learning experience and features fun for the whole family.”
The fair featured a variety of activities and exhibits including rock painting, corn husk doll creation, face painting, a petroglyph site, a pictograph wall and more. Many children also participated in the hands-on excavation “archaeology dig”. Almost 600 guests and many volunteers attended the event throughout the day.
“Our guests had the opportunity to participate in hands-on excavation, enjoy the Native American Bearclaw singers and dancers, see a variety of exhibits and demonstrations and much more,” Kissick added.
