AIA Lecturer/Host: C. Brian Rose

C. Brian Rose (Ph.D., Columbia) is an expert on ancient Rome who has earned rave reviews on previous AIA Tours for both his engaging lectures and congenial manner. He is currently the James B. Pritchard Professor of Mediterranean Archaeology at the University of Pennsylvania, and Curator-in-Charge of the Mediterranean Section of the Penn Museum. For 25 years he served as co-director of the excavations at Troy, and is now director of the Gordion excavations in central Turkey. In addition to his extensive teaching and fieldwork, Dr. Rose has received many awards such as the Rome Prize of the American Academy in Rome; the Berlin Prize of the American Academy in Berlin; the Max Planck Prize of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation; and grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Council of Learned Societies, the American Research Institute in Turkey, and the Samuel H.
