Travel through tropical jungles from the westernmost ancient Mayan center to the easternmost, visiting seven ancient sites (four are World Heritage sites). Temple-pyramids soar above the lush rainforest, home to the indigenous Maya and exotic plants and animals. At each site and museum admire fabulous architecture and art, enormous stelae (carved monoliths), painted frescoes, stucco friezes and carved lintels. Now that the ancient Maya script has been deciphered, we learn from our AIA expert the stories of royal families who ruled these once lost cities.
