Build Your Own Monument Competition Recap

Ryker (age 12) won the judge's pick in the youth category for Stonehenge.

We were delighted with the response to our first Build Your Own Monument competition that wrapped up last week.  We received 320 entries from 14 countries, 30 U.S. states, and the District of Columbia showcasing a lot of creativity in response to our challenge to reconstruct Stonehenge, El Castillo at Chichén Itzá, the Colosseum, and the pyramids of Giza at home.

During the month of the contest, there were over 100,000 pageviews on the contest pages on the International Archaeology Day website, tens of thousands of followers on social media, and coverage from Atlas Obscura, Smithsonian Magazine online, and Newsela.  Our judges and participating voters from around the world selected 24 winning entries—you can see all of them in the gallery above. Thank you to everyone who participated!
