Public Lecture by Rebecca Benefiel, Professor of Classics, Washington and Lee University.
Rebecca Benefiel is a Professor of Classics who specializes in Latin literature and Roman archaeology. Her research interests focus on the social and cultural history of the Roman Empire and Latin epigraphy. She is a supervisor for the Epigraphic Database Roma, part of the EU best practice network, EAGLE (The Europeana Network of Ancient Greek and Latin Epigraphy), and is overseeing the preparation of ancient graffiti from Pompeii and Herculaneum. She is also Director of the Ancient Graffiti Project.
