AIA 2018 Photo Contest Results
March 2, 2018

The 2018 AIA Photo Contest saw over 150 photos taken in 25 different countries pour in as members and friends of the AIA shared their archaeological experiences through photos in five categories: archaeological landscapes, excavation, field life, fun finds, and monuments.  Looking through the photos one sees stunning shots of temples, columns, and statues as well as excavators hard at work and even a dog snoozing in the streets of Pompeii.

This year, during the one week voting period, over 13,000 votes were cast.  One participant, photographer Gavin McGuire, received a wonderful outpouring of support from friends and colleagues and won three of the five categories.  As a result, we are also presenting prizes (a one year AIA membership) to several runners-up who also submitted fabulous photos and garnered many votes.  Be sure to see the stunning award-winning photos below.  A dozen top photos submitted to this year’s contest will be selected by AIA staff to be featured in the AIA’s 2019 Calendar.
